WHEN TO CONSULT THE OPHTHALMOLOGIST
A visit to the ophthalmologist is important at all ages to assess eye health and detect possible vision problems or eye diseases early.
Here are some general recommendations on when to see an eye doctor at each age:
- Newborns and babies: Newborns are observed in the maternity ward. It is important for babies to have an eye examination in the first months of life, often performed by the pediatrician, to detect possible congenital or developmental problems.
- Children: it is recommended that children have an eye examination before they start school, and then according to the advice of their Ophthalmologist.
- Adolescents and young adults: In most cases, one eye visit every 4 or 5 years is sufficient. However, if there is a family history of eye disease, significant visual changes, or other risk factors, it may be necessary to visit the eye doctor more frequently.
- Middle-aged and older adults: Starting at age 40, it is recommended that adults have an eye examination every 3 years. After the age of 65, the frequency of appointments can be increased to every 1 to 2 years.
Remember that these recommendations are only general guidelines and may vary depending on individual needs. If you have any concerns about your vision or eye health, consult an eye care professional as soon as possible.
