Portuguese ophthalmologist in the world spotlight
Physician and researcher Rufino Silva was featured in the "World's Top 2% Scientists" list as one of the most cited scientists in 2022.
In addition to his academic activity, ophthalmologist Rufino Silva leads the Medical Retina and Neurophthalmology Section at the Coimbra Hospital and University Center (CHUC). During the 2020-2021 biennium, he chaired the Portuguese Ophthalmology Society (SPO) and also held the position of Vice-President in 2019-2020.
The data presented in this study, published by Elsevier, is collected from Scopus, and considers the index, volume of publications and citations of scientists from all over the world. The data on citations over a period of one year refers to citations received during the calendar year 2022.
Rufino Silva has already published 172 papers in national and international scientific journals, with more than 4,500 citations, in various areas of knowledge, namely age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and pathological myopia.
Having also led national and international research projects, he is a principal investigator at AIBILI - Associação para a Investigação Biomédica e Inovação em Luz e Imagem (Association for Biomedical Research and Innovation in Light and Image) and at the Coimbra Institute for Clinical and Biomedical Research (iCBR) of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra.
